Indicative Content
Elite Coach Experiences
Guest Lecture Series from various Elite Performance Coaches. Discussion-based setting focusing on coaching philosophies, experiential processes and life-long learning. Core themes may include management challenges in elite sport, the importance of group dynamics, developing tactical strategies, research-informed practice and the importance of reflective practice.
Critical Analysis of Coaching Paradigms
Personal reflections and group-based discussion based on each Guest Presentation from both an objective (literature) and subjective (personal experience) perspective. Students will gain critical experience in interrogating the literature in the Coaching Science field. In addition, personal experiences from both their sports performance and coaching backgrounds will serve as a subjective comparative to the Guest Lecture Series content.
Coaching Pedagogy
The challenge of coaching tactical awareness and development in sport. The use of game-based scenarios to replicate typical tactical challenges in real-time. Recognising the challenging and selecting the 'what', based on the 'why' and understanding the 'when'. Personal and group reflective practice exercises will serve this process well in terms of encouraging further thought and analysis in challenging tactical settings.
