Module Description: This module will help the learner to develop greater control and flexibility in the use of the voice and body, and how these skills are applied to texts, incorporating the acting techniques of Uta Hagen and Sanford Meisner.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 exhibit an advanced level and wide range of physical and vocal skills in performance
LO2 apply suitable vocal and movement styles to a selection of texts from different periods and styles
LO3 perform a variety of actor training exercises drawing on the acting techniques of Uta Hagen and Sanford Meisner.
LO4 utilise techniques developed by theatre practitioners covered in the module
LO5 critically reflect on and document course work

Voice
Develop greater flexibility and control of the voice in a variety of different periods and styles
Movement
Develop greater flexibility and control in using the body in performance
Uta Hagen
Acting techniques which encourage actors to avoid over-intellectualising their processes and instead root themselves in rigorous observation of daily life.
Sanford Meisner
The work of Sanford Meisner’s repetition exercise and truthful improvisation techniques opens the actor up to more than their own experiences through the use of imagination rather than affective memory.

Critically reflect on working practices and modes of rehearsal
