Module Description: |
Ethics, research and professional development in Biomedical Science. This module enables the learner to assimilate ethics in practice and requires the learner to undertake an exercise in applying for ethical approval for intended research. The learner applies knowledge to construct a reflective practice piece. The learner studies the principles of teaching and learning. The concept of continuing professional development commensurate with professional body and state regulator is expanded. The learner constructs a survey and a scientific paper. Assessment is undertaken by the learner of quality in scientific writing through both writing and the reviewing process. Assessment contains formative and summative elements.
|
Learning Outcomes |
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: |
# |
Learning Outcome Description |
LO1 |
Discuss the professional requirements of the medical scientist. |
LO2 |
Participate in reflective practice demonstrating an understanding of CPD and managing workload and priorities. |
LO3 |
Design, disseminate and analyse a survey while adhering to ethical approval. |
LO4 |
Appraise quality in scientific writing and construct a scientific paper. |

Module Recommendations
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).
|
|
Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
|
No incompatible modules listed |
