Indicative Content
Health Related Fitness (HRF)
Introduction to the components of HRF (i.e. cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, body composition) and their relationship with physical activity, health and well-being. Emphasis will be placed on the measurement and evaluation of these components using a variety of field tests, and how they relate to health and well being. The concept of developing a personal health profile will be established in conjunction with the health evaluation methods described above.
Skill Related Fitness (SRF)
Introduction to the components of SRF (i.e. speed, power, agility, balance, coordination, reaction time) and their relationship with physical activity and sports performance. Emphasis will be placed on the measurement and evaluation of these components using a variety of field tests, and how they relate to skillful performance in a variety of contexts. The relationship with fundamental movement skills (FMS) will be explored also, both from a performance and evaluation perspective.
Learning In, Through and About Physical Activity
Students will apply their knowledge and understanding of the components of HRF and SRF to positive and enjoyable engagement in physical activity and sport. Students’ personal, social and intellectual development will be enhanced through their engagement in these activities. These personal and practical experiences will support informed decision-making related to the role and function of this strand of the PE curriculum in modern day society.
