Module Description: |
This module includes an introduction to spreadsheets in practical labs and business information systems theories in lectures. The practical element will cover the use of formulas and functions to allow for logical manipulation of data and data analysis. The theory element will cover topics including the key functions of an information system, e-business, IS security, and legal and ethical considerations for IS.

Impact of internet, industry disruption, value proposition, business models, success factors in e-business, major applications (crm, scm, etc.), impact on retailing, business to business, role of internet in management/co-ordination, e-business challenges, developing a strategy for e-business.

Development and Applications of BIS
Systems Development Life Cycle, alternatives to SDLC, management issues in systems development, change management and systems development, aligning systems development with business, core SDLC activities, methodlogies for analysis and design, feasibility study, cost benefit analysis, business value analysis, change management. Developing enterprise applications (ERP, SCM, CRM), knowledge based systems, knowledge management flow & control, decision support systems, executive support systems, business intelligence and analytics.

Threats and prevention, analysing costs, designing control structures, business continuity, specific types of control, control technologies, control audit, Data Protection Act, case studies, recent developments.

Spreadsheet design review, lookups, pivot tables, if statements inc. complex ifs, introduction to macros.
