This module aims to provide students with the specific knowledge required to engage successfully in international business management. In particular, it aspires to develop an awareness of the ways in which cultural, leadership & motivational factors influence the practice of management in international settings.

What is international management/business? why study it ? Benefits to consumers of international trade. The levels of management, skills of international managers, roles of International management.

Culture of International Management
How culture is transmitted. Culture’s impact, communication, problems in dealing with culture, avoiding cultural problems, analysing culture – Sociology Framework, Psychological Framework, Expansive Framework, the GLOBE study, Culture Framework integration.

Motivation
Major theories of motivation – content, process etc., how motivation changes as we apply those ideas in an international setting.

Leadership in international settings
Leadership theories – trait, behavioural, contingency. New views on leadership styles, connecting leadership and culture.

Planning & Decision making in International Business
Planning and organisational goals for international companies, types of plans, corporate planning process. Various models of decision making, group decision making.

Structure of International Firm
Different organisational structures, simple, functional, divisional, single business units, matrix. Deciding which structure is right.
