Module Description: The emphasis of this module is on supply chains of companies that source, produce, distribute and market in various International markets. It outlines the process of developing a global supply chain, as well as implementing global operations and logistics strategies.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Explain the four dimensions of supply chain management: Objectives, Flows, Partnerships and Integration.
LO2 Evaluate the impact of globalisation and business internationalisation on supply chain capability and design.
LO3 Appraise the main issues and trends that need to be addressed in building strategically aligned global supply chains.
LO4 Apply supply chain activities, such as inventory management, forecasting, procurement, warehousing and distribution.
LO5 Analyse the practical implementation of global logistics strategies through case studies and guest lecturers.

Fundamentals of Supply Chain Management
Objectives of SCM (Customer Satisfaction vs Cost), philosophy of integration, partnerships, product and service flows, monetary flows, information flows, reverse logistics.
Globalisation of Industries and Markets
Globalisation. Major trends in the global economy and business environment. Factors affecting international markets and competitiveness. Opportunities and threats to companies in the changing environment. Stages in globalisation and the various modes of going global. Bilateral and multi-lateral agreements, trading internationally and international bodies. Culture. Market channels and modes of entry.
Global Operations, Logistics Strategies and SC Trends
Strategic changes required by Globalisation; the strategic framework for global operations; the role of logistics in global operations and marketing strategies; global operations and logistics planning; supplier network development; supplier relations and strategic alliances; international procurement and outsourcing strategies. Lean, agile, Sustainable and Green Supply Chain Management. Supply Chain Risk.
SC Activities
Internal (buy, make, store, move, sell) and external SCs; the role of forecasting and inventory management, procurement, warehousing strategies, transport management, logistics marketing.
International Supply Chains in Industry Contexts
A number of case studies and guest lectures will be used to illustrate international supply chain management issues and trends across a range of industry contexts.

Assessment Description
Weekly individual presentations & short written report on a supply chain topic. Each student presents once in the semester and writes a brief 4 page report. Depending on the size of the class, 1-3 students present individually for 10-15 mins each every week.
