Module Description: This module facilitates synthesis of practical, theoretical and conceptual learning and its concerns and content are largely common to all major art disciplines. Emphasis within this module is placed on developing approaches to structured research and visual investigation that informs and directs the creation of effective artworks.
The development of an individual studio discipline and practice is intrinsic to this module.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Develop an area of personal, visual and conceptual enquiry based on focused research and structured visual investigation.
LO2 Create a series of art works that successfully utilize material, visual methodology and medium to communicate its message.
LO3 Engage in critical dialogue with their peers through active participation in structured seminars and discussion groups.
LO4 Demonstrate independence in their own practice and evidence research into their practice's wider context and concerns.
LO5 Demonstrate an appropriate level proficiency in the manipulation of materials and media.

Research and Investigation
Research - identification of relevant sources and selection of appropriate information. Interpretation/analysis/evaluation. Practice based investigation.
Concept
Conceptual development – establishing and developing a thematic direction. Visual problems – identification, investigation/exploration and resolution.
Planning and organisation
Planning - approaches to personal planning and organisation.
Practice
Scheduled activities, including formal tutorials, seminars and critiques present learning opportunities that are essential to the effective development of individual studio practice.
Process
Process – process and materials - selection and use. Health and safety in studio.
