Module Description: This module is designed for students who wish to acquire advanced skills in both conducting and orchestration. Gestural fluency and an enhanced understanding of orchestral and instrumental scoring are the main foci of the module.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Conduct a wide range of demanding styles of music
LO2 Rehearse and perform with a mixed ensemble in limited rehearsal time
LO3 Use software needed to prepare, score, rehearse, conduct and perform
LO4 Use a wide range of orchestral techniques from late-18th to mid-20th century
LO5 Score a short but reasonably complex item for mixed ensemble

Cross-disciplinary study of gestural fluency, clarity and control; articulation of personal insight and critical awareness; rehearsal and performance of student's orchestration project.
Orchestration
Orchestration exercises; project, setting of a short but demanding item for mixed ensemble.
