Indicative Content
Preparation for Placement
At commencement of the placement a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed by workplace mentor and student. This will outline roles and responsibilities of all participants in the placement process. An initial pre-placement online meeting will also be conducted with the MTU supervisor, workplace mentor and student at the commencement of the placement to ensure the tasks identified are appropriate for the knowledge, skills and competencies of an undergraduate student.
Planning
Effective planning of tasks identified by the workplace. These may include practical tasks such as the delivery of sports coaching sessions or assisting the delivery of school based physical education classes. Tasks may also include theoretical, desk based activities such as data inputting and analysis or reviewing best practice relating to topics.
Implementation & Delivery
Application of knowledge, skills and competencies acquired at MTU to the workplace setting. In a school based setting, this may involve support-teaching and/or co-teaching under the supervision of a qualified PE teacher. In coaching and fitness industry positions it may involve assisting in the delivery of sessions/ classes to athletes/ client groups under the supervision of the work place mentor. For other positions it may involve the completion of a multitude of suitable theoretical/ desk based tasks with the guidance of the workplace mentor. At different stages the student may be asked to work in independent self directed learning environments or within team environments.
Reflective Learning
Development of a reflective practitioner. Completion of a portfolio with reflective journal relating to work placement tasks and the associated key learning experiences. Reflection of how the work placement experience informs future career plans and goals. To assist this reflective process a 'Community of Practice' of students in similar placement settings will be coordinated by the MTU supervisor using e.g. Canvas online platform to support and guide this learning process.
Communication
Management and communication processes within the enterprise, meetings, presentations, project planning and online communication. Effective communication with staff, clients, and/or students as appropriate to the work placement setting.
