Module Description: |
This module focuses on the development of a complete research dissertation thesis. It builds on the work completed in the Dissertation module in the previous semester of this programme (i.e. Dissertation: Fieldwork). Specifically, the focus of this module will be on conducting in-depth data analysis, discussion of the key findings prior to the development of a complete research Dissertation thesis.

Learning Outcomes |
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: |
# |
Learning Outcome Description |
LO1 |
Perform appropriate qualitative and/or quantitative analysis on data-sets collected. |
LO2 |
Discuss findings from the research based on previous relevant scientific literature in the field of study. |
LO3 |
Present the research undertaken in a thesis document that illustrates appropriate academic referencing, formatting and scholarly writing. |
LO4 |
Demonstrate the skills necessary to engage effectively in the research process and implement the research plan. |

Module Recommendations
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).
|
|
Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
|
No incompatible modules listed |
Co-requisite Modules

Requirements
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.

Indicative Content |
Data Analysis: Quantitative
For quantitative data studies students will demonstrate an ability to create a data file, input the data, clean the data, test for normality of data distribution, conduct appropriate statistical tests and present the findings from these tests.
|
Data Analysis: Qualitative
For qualitative research studies students will review and explore the data, create initial codes, review these codes and revise or combine into themes and present these themes in a cohesive manner. Students will also develop an appreciation of different approaches to qualitative analysis e.g. grounded theory, phenomenology.
|
Discussion & Conclusion
Key findings and practical applications relating to this research are discussed in relation to previous literature carried out in the area. Strengths, limitations, conclusions and directions for future research are also presented coherently and effectively discussed by the student.
|
Management of a research project
The student must display a high standard of academic writing which is clearly presented, and uses appropriate referencing. A final thesis will be submitted with abstract, review of literature, methodology, discussion, conclusion chapters.
|
Oral & poster presentation
Students will develop a research poster relating to their work. Students will conduct an oral presentation providing an overview of their research and answer questions relating to different aspects of the research process.
