Analyse Túsla Quality and Regulatory Framework statutory requirements and inspection process in Education and Care settings. |
LO5 |
Analyse Pobal financial remit and National Quality Framework (DES) for Early Childhood Education and Care in Ireland and the impact of public reporting. |
LO6 |
Apply the learned management skills and competencies in managing people, problem solving, decision making, interpersonal, informational & decisional roles in the ECEC environment. |
LO7 |
Evaluate the importance of reflection and continuous improvement in an Education and Care manager's development. |
LO8 |
Apply the management skills and competencies to action whereby the student can shadow/assist the manager in their setting once they go on placement. |

Exploring the defining characteristics of supervising & managing within an Education and Care context.

Models of Educational Leadership
Examination of the differing theoretical models of management and leadership in education, such as Instructional Leadership; Managerial Leadership; Transactional leadership; Transformational Leadership; Participative Leadership.

Organisational Structures and Roles
Bureaucracy; Collegiality; Delegation; Micropolitics, Leadership and Management Roles; role conflict and ambiguity. Management in action - the interpersonal, informational & decisional roles of managers in the Education and Care (birth to 12 years) sector. Managers are made and not born. Bridging the gap - when does the student/ graduate become a manager?

Recruitment and Selection; Induction and retention; Managing Performance; Diversity. Leading people with a variety of behavioural styles. Delegation & Patterns of Authority. Practical People Management Skills.

Education and Care Management Skills Workshop
The facilitation of discussion and nurturing of reflection amongst the students in their management development journey. The management skills workshop will bring the benefit of generating alternative perspectives and debates. The workshop will also allow the student to pin point their strengths and developmental opportunities and reflect about how they may overcome current weaknesses.
