Module Description: This module focuses on two areas; Statistics and Accounting. The objective is to give the student a practical understanding of the principle concepts in statistics and accounting.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Prepare ledger accounts in order to complete double-entry book-keeping.
LO2 Prepare basic financial statements such as income statements, statement of financial position
LO3 Prepare and explain relevant accounting ratios.
LO4 Calculate and interpret summary statistics, represent statistical data graphically
LO5 Calculate and interpret index numbers

Introduction
Sources of statistical information, data collection techniques and presentation of statistics
Measures of location and Measures of dispersion
Calculation of the mean, mode, median,range, standard deviation and variance.
Index Numbers
Calculation of price indices
Time Series Analysis
Examine different patterns of time series analysis and calculating trends.
Accounting ratios
Liquidity ratios, debt:equity ratios etc.
Trading accounts
An introduction to income statements, statement of financial positions etc.
