This module is designed to provide students with an understanding of the challenges associated with postgraduate life, and to develop a set of scientifically validated practical resources which will enable resilience and behavioural change sustained through the medium of evidence based psychology.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: |

Learning Outcome Description |
LO1 |
Observe and analyse the causes and impact of stress on life in academia and implement resilience and coping strategies to deal with it. |
LO2 |
Plan, implement and critically reflect on positive health behaviour changes (exercise, nutrition, relaxation and sleep) and how they impact on personal wellness. |
LO3 |
Practice and critically engage with current Positive Psychology theory, in particular the PERMA model of wellbeing which focuses on Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Achievement and how it relates to the individual. |
LO4 |
Provide evidence, (using an Action Enquiry or similar methodology), of having investigated the concept and components of resilience and how it can be developed through behavioural change. |

Indicative Content |
The Biology of Disease
An understanding of the typical stressors which are inherent in a modern technologically focused society and the negative impact this can have on the overall health of individuals.
|
Positive Psychology
Undertaking of Positive Psychology Interventions (PPI) e.g. 3 good things, gratitude visit/letter, best possible self, identification of character strengths (VIA character strengths), use of character strengths. Completion of Reflected Best Self Exercise (RBSE).

Dimensions of Wellness
Analysis of a model of wellness with focus on positive health behaviours. Awareness of these behaviours and how they impact wellness. Use of 4 pillars of physical wellness model (Nutrition, Sleep, Exercise and Relaxation) to enhance personal wellness.

Behavioural Change
An appreciation of the stages of behavioural change and how it may increase personal motivation, autonomy, goal setting and habit formation.

Resilience
An understanding of resilience and how to cultivate it through the implementation of positive psychology practices.
