Module Description: This module will equip the learner with the tools and techniques necessary to manage time, cost and quality on construction projects. The student will develop a detailed understanding of project management systems implemented throughout the project life cycle.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Evaluate the key principles of project management in the delivery of construction projects.
LO2 Critique management systems in a project context.
LO3 Analyse and evaluate the management of time, cost and quality on construction projects.
LO4 Critically appraise design management and procurement throughout the project life cycle.
LO5 Examine and plan for the impact of contemporary construction project practices and processes on built environment development activity.

Principles of Project Management
Corporate organisation structures, project management vs operations management, strategic planning for project management and project management procedures throughout the project life cycle.
Management Systems
Quality management systems, safety management and environmental management systems.
Time Management on Construction Projects
Strategic time management, planning and scheduling complex projects, controlling time, the use of bespoke project scheduling software and delay analysis.
Cost Management on Construction Projects
Capital investment appraisal, development finance, economic impact analysis, cost management and control and whole life costing.
Strategic Project management issues
Interdependency and integration of the project team, effective communications, information and communications technology (ICT), building information management, partnering, design management, client management and construction procurement, lean methods, modern methods of construction.
