Module Description: |
This module aims to allow the student to examine and evaluate the overall processes within which buildings are conceived, designed, constructed and used. The focus is primarily on the construction phase of the development process, although there may be some reference ot the pre-construction phase.

Indicative Content |
Student choice
Student to select three of the assessed areas which are applicable to the chosen development and reflect total development process.

Assessed area
Acceptability of proposals in the light of planners attitude to the site -
planning theory for area and site, local planning policy, exhaustive study, specific problems to site, building control.

Assessed area
Selection of method for carrying out design and construction - global view of procurement, alternative systems, application to specific development. Building form strategy.

Assessed area
Project planning and monitoring procedures - development planning and monitoring, control of development, inception to completion, financial planning and control.
|
Assessed area
Proposals for handover, disposal and use - specific development documentation required, procedures involved, justification of choice, legal issues.

Assessed area
User satisfaction, management, cost-in use of completed building - user satisfaction, potential problems, procedures, management systems, costs-in-use categories.

Tutor Incidents
Incident to change some aspect of the student's plans to simulate actual development environment.
