Module Description: This module provides an introduction to simple spatial design. It also introduces the student to the processes that are commonly used to organise and support study, research, analysis and studio design projects in interior architecture.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
Interior architecture
Perception and analysis of interior space. Simple domestic space design. Space planning. Analysis of everyday tasks. Experiencing contemporary and historic architecture and design through site visits.
Design Theory and practice
studies in proportion, form, texture and surface. Primary elements - point, line and plane. Basic concepts of solid geometry, mass and volume. Introducing the design process and how a design is developed through stages. Natural light and its effect on materials. Modelmaking in card as a design tool. Conceptualization through abstract study of natural form.
