Module Code: ARCH6087
Title: Manual & Digital Visualisation
Long Title: Manual & Digital Visualisation
NFQ Level: Fundamental
Valid From: Semester 1 - 2019/20 ( September 2019 )
Duration: 1 Semester
Credits: 5
Field of Study: 5810 - Architecture & Urban Environment
Module Delivered in: 2 programme(s)
Module Description: This module further develops a students capacity to communicate ideas and concepts through freehand illustration using pens, pencils and markers. The module also introduces students to 3D visualisation using Sketchup and Photo manipulation using Photoshop

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
# Learning Outcome Description
LO1 Recognize and operate photoshop commands
LO2 Manipulate images using Photoshop
LO3 Illustrate 3 point perspectives through freehand techniques quickly and in sketch format
LO4 Iterate concepts and ideas using hand sketching on one page using pen and marker rendering techniques.
LO5 Demonstrate an ability to communicate interior spatial design proposals through 3D software.

Module Recommendations

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).

Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
No incompatible modules listed
Co-requisite Modules
No Co-requisite modules listed
Requirements

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.

Students enrolling in this modules should have an intermediate level of freehand sketching and orthographic drawing.

Indicative Content
Freehand Sketching
Sketch of an interior room in 3-point perspective Develop concept sketches on a single sheet quickly, supported by marker rendering in Freehand sketches. Sketch people in various positions and perspectives in Freehand sketches. Develop a personal style for representing people in Freehand sketches.
SketchUp
Define create basic geometric forms, including polygons, arcs and use more advanced features such as the FOLLOWME tool and TEXTURE TWEAKER. Use Groups and Components to isolate geometry, know the difference between a group and a component and understand component inferencing behavior and how to edit a component. Create materials and use the materials browser and libraries. Understand how to apply SketchUp Styles. Use lighting, camera and style tools in Sketchup. Build an interior over 1 floor and apply materials in Sketchup. Export Visuals.
Photoshop
Understanding of advanced commands in Adobe Photoshop for architectural design presentation boards. Efficient use of layers and groups to manage information on canvas. Introduction to image manipulation and rendering (computer generated or hand Drawn) images in Photoshop to achieve realistic representation of materials, people and lighting within the scheme. Competencies developed in creating patterns to achieve realistic scaled materials. Vanishing point skills used to ensure correct skew is achieved with materials or imagery integrated. Lighting competencies further developed to represent daylight and artificial lighting – colour opacity, gradient, fill, lens flare, gaussian blur and soft edge brush. Using levels to improved scanned images. Colour management – Paint Bucket, gradient, opacity, modes, adjustments and fill.
