Module Description: |
This module will allow students to use bespoke quantity surveying software, such as Buildsoft, Cubit and/or similar software packages, to measure and price a Bill Of Quantities (BoQ) and interact with construction managers at various stages of a construction project.

LO1 |
Appraise the requirements, purposes and functionality of Bills of Quantities, the Agreed Rules of Measurement and the National Table of Building Elements. |
LO2 |
Measure,collate and prepare a Bill of Quantities utilising appropriate quantity surveying measurement software. |
LO3 |
Apply estimating principles to the measured work elements of the Bill of Quantities. |
LO4 |
Demonstrate an understanding of pre-contract design team principles and their specific application to quantity surveyors. |
LO5 |
Analyse and understand the preparation and submission of tender documentation from a main contractor's perspective. |

Requirements and Functions of BoQ
Uniform basis for measuring construction work, assess the total cost of a building, identify the resources required.
|
Measurement of Elements
Measurement of detailed drawings in accordance with specified Method of Measurement and the National Table of Building Elements. Use of Buildsoft quantity surveying software for the measurement process. Comply with the principles of the Capital Works Management Framework.

Estimating
Resource Costs - labour, materials and plant, productivity and output, sub-contractor costings, prelims, overheads and profit. Preparation and submission of tender documentation.

Design Team Principles.
Quantity surveyor interface with client at briefing process, procurement methods, value engineering.
