Module Description: This module aims to provide a context for the site construction manager's role regarding site organisation production and procedures. The Regulatory Framework and Quality Management systems that are concerned with the Construction Industry are examined.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Identify the processes of management related to construction production management.
LO2 Describe the construction site process and the implications of site layout planning.
LO3 Explain the requirements for the appropriate management of all resources on site.
LO4 Examine the regulatory framework in which the construction industry operates in relation to planning, regulations and Building Control (Amendment) Regulations (BCAR) that apply to the construction of new dwellings.
LO5 Describe the concepts of quality, quality control, quality assurance and total quality management.

Indicative Content
Principles of Management
Management, processes and construction production management.
Construction Process/Environment
The construction process on site: site classification, site layout planning, security, traffic management and environmental issues.
Management of Resources
Labour: controlling and monitoring labour on site. Materials: control, monitoring, waste minimisation, quality control. Plant & equipment: acquisition, maintenance, safety.
Regulatory Framework
Building control; Safety, Health & Welfare; the planning system and BCAR.
Quality Management
Introduction to the concepts of quality, quality control, quality assurance and total quality management.
