Module Recommendations
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).
|
|
Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
|
No incompatible modules listed |

Requirements
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.

No requirements listed |
Indicative Content |
Cost drivers of site set-up and management organisational structures
Understanding the cost drivers of site set-up for the quantity surveyor, site management and plant requirements, overhead and organisational structure, analysis of contractors' preliminaries.
|
The construction programme
Project programme appreciation, activity determination, time estimation techniques, key deliverables, interdependency, resource estimating and cash flow, updating, progress recording, as built programme, claims for extension of time, delay and disruption.
|
Building Information Modelling (BIM)
The benefits of BIM, interpretation of 3D design data, clash detection, implications of 4D scheduling on time management and 5D quantity extraction from the model.
|
Life Cycle Costing
Understand the principles that affect a building's life, identify the factors that affect the physical deterioration of buildings, consider the different forms of obsolescence that affect property, recognise the variability in the lives of building components, understand the relationship between inflation, interest rates and discount rates.
|
Facilities Management
Definition, history. What is FM ? Scope of FM, job responsibilities, size of FM marketplace.
|
Value Management
The origins and expectations of value management. Distinguish between value engineering and value management. Understand the methodology used in value management. Realise the importance of cost value reductions in eliminating unnecessary costs. Identify the different techniques that are used in value management studies and recognise the wider implications of securing value for money.
