Module Description: |
Knowledge of German sentence structures, as well as vocabulary in everyday and basic business situations, will be deepened. Students will acquire vocabulary and phrases to be able to discuss e.g. news items and current affairs at a reasonably basic level. Basic business situations such as meeting, greeting, and entertaining clients or visitors, as well as organising visitor programmes, are included in this module. This modules assumes a minimum prior knowledge of German at CEFR level A1+ (also commonly referred to as Level A1.2).

Landeskunde
The Germans/Austrians/Swiss at work. Telephone and email communication in the workplace. Types of employment contracts and basic regulations.

Language content
Language for everyday situations requiring negotiation and resolution (e.g. family squabbles, making phone calls, writing emails) . Hobbies; personal goals; plans and hopes for the future.

Grammar
Comparative & superlative; reflexive verbs; würden & könnten; the conditional; relative clauses with "nachdem" and "bevor"; infinitives with "zu".
