Module Description: |
This module centres on the societal and business culture of the Spanish-speaking world (Spain and Latin America as a whole). This includes topics on the sectors of the economy and the job culture. This module also reviews and expands on the A2+ level of Spanish according to European Framework of Reference for Languages: the combination of past tenses (preterite and imperfect), the direct object pronouns (usage and position) and the introduction of the Subjunctive tense (present and past).

LO1 |
Analyse in Spanish the economic and job culture in Spain and Latin America as a whole in comparison with the students' home countries. |
LO2 |
Speak and respond to Spanish conversations in A2+ level on topics of work and business (job interviews and descriptions of businesses). |
LO3 |
Write essays in Spanish in A2+ level on the areas of past personal anecdotes, food, wishes (personal and societal), work and business. |
LO4 |
Read and discuss authentic texts about the sectors of the economy and work cultures in Spain and Latin America as a whole. It also includes texts on personal and societal changes with subjunctive in A2+ level. |
LO5 |
Listen and respond to Spanish conversations on topics of work and business in the present and past tenses. |

Indicative Content |
Cultural Studies
The sectors of the economy (primary, secondary and tertiary) and the job culture (sectors, locations, companies, work timetables, holidays, pay) in Spain and Latin America as a whole.

Listening skills
Audio material includes the areas covered in A2+ level of Spanish according to European framework of reference for languages on the topics of work, food and past anecdotes.

Speaking skills
Group and individual oral work on CVs, job interviews and discussions in details of companies in A2+ level Spanish.

Writing skills
Writing essays in A2+ level of Spanish on the topics of sectors of the economy, job culture, past anecdotes, food, and wishes (societal and personal).

Reading skills
Reading moderately complex authentic texts in A2+ level of Spanish on the topics of sectors of the economy, job culture, past anecdotes, food, and wishes (societal and personal).

Grammar skills
Combination of past tenses to narrate past anecdotes in A2+ level, Impersonal SE, direct object pronouns and introduction of subjunctive (present and past tenses) to express wishes, future time clauses and with the verb DECIR. Also differences between SER and ESTAR.
