Module Description: This module builds on and develops students' existing knowledge of the French language, and also focuses on broadening their knowledge of contemporary French culture and society.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO3 Write short paragraphs in French using a variety of appropriate verb tenses.
LO4 Listen to and analyse spoken French which would be used in everyday and/or business situations.

Indicative Content
Cultural studies
Regions and regional identity in France. Reform of regional administration.
Listening
AV resources to practice listening skills and comprehension.
Speaking skills
Group and paired work on role plays dealing with typical everyday interactions.
Writing skills
Writing short answers and longer paragraphs in French with attention to relevant aspects of grammar and syntax (use of appropriate verb tenses, register, agreement of verbs and adjectives, etc.)
Reading skills
Reading authentic texts in French (e.g. short media articles).
Grammar and vocabulary
Knowledge of grammar and practical application e.g. present and future tenses of regular and irregular verbs and building on vocabulary knowledge in topics covered during lectures and labs.
