Module Description: |
This module examines different cultural and societal aspects of Spain. This module also expands on the four main skills of language learning: writing, reading, speaking and listening. with a view to extend the student’s tools to communicate in everyday life. Vocabulary of houses, hotels, travelling, holidays, asking and giving directions will also be provided. Past tenses (present perfect and indefinite tense) will be introduced and also the present continuous.

Listen and analyse elementary conversations in Spanish (housing, holidays, directions). |

Speak about oneself and others in Spanish about the topics of housing, holidays and last jobs or holidays. |

Write short paragraphs in Spanish in the present, the present perfect and the preterite tenses including texts on travelling, hotels, holidays and housing. |
LO5 |
Examine and discuss authentic texts in Spanish on the topics of towns, cities and houses; directions, travelling, holidays and hotels in the past and present tenses. |

Cultural Studies
Research cultural and societal aspects of Spain.
|
Listening Skills
Different audio materials (CDs, films, videos, podcasts...) on the topics of houses, cities, hotels, holidays and travelling.
|
Speaking Skills
Group and paired dramatic role-playing, including basic business transactions such as booking a room in a hotel; travelling by bus, train or plane. Basic sentences in the Present Perfect and the Preterite tenses like talking about what they have done recently, their last job and holidays.
|
Writing Skills
Writing short paragraphs in the present, the present perfect and the preterite tenses about oneself. Write about one's house, domestic chores and role plays in hotels, train/bus stations and airports.

Reading Skills
Reading elementary authentic texts in Spanish about housing, cities, travelling and hotels/holidays in the Spanish-speaking world.

Grammar
Areas of grammar covered for listening, speaking, writing and reading skills include: review of present tense (regular and irregular forms), the Present Perfect, the Preterite tense and the Present Continuous.
