Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Demonstrate an understanding of music management structures, including funding formulae for the arts
LO2 Apply principles of marketing and promotion in the arts, including consideration of the role of artist management
LO3 Research income streams that are available to the performing musician through Intellectual Property Law and Copyrights
LO4 Demonstrate knowledge of current issues in existing research literature on arts business and management
LO5 Demonstrate the ability to handle contract negotiations, as well as public Q & A sessions, and express informed critical opinions
LO6 Use specific knowledge gained to write compelling grant applications and to compete for funding for specific projects from organisations such as the Arts Council

Comparative Arts Council funding structures in Ireland, Europe and North America; Intellectual Property Law and Copyrights; Financial Balance Sheets; research contexts
Career-building
Funding, promotion and the role of the media in the arts; negotiation skills with regard to contracts and general skills of business; research contexts; grant applications
Key roles and contexts in the profession
Defining professional profiles. Analysing the changes taking place in the profession. Perspectives pertaining to the wider international landscape and research contexts

The course is delivered in blocks over three Saturdays in one semester.
