Module Description: |
This module aims to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and competences to research and develop an industry based project in a global context which fosters strategic thinking. The module will require the learner to develop a strategy to address a defined problem within a specified time-frame. The learner is expected to be self-motivated and must communicate the process and outcomes of the project, in a manner appropriate to the global aviation industry.
|
Learning Outcomes |
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: |
# |
Learning Outcome Description |
LO1 |
Undertake a comprehensive internal and external environmental analysis on the factors that impact an industry based problem. |
LO2 |
Systematically identify and engage with relevant stakeholders through a consultation process that informs understanding of the problem under examination. |
LO3 |
Critically assess different possible solutions to the identified problem and in doing so, assess the issues and challenges which might arise. |
LO4 |
Develop an appropriate strategy that can be readily and realistically implemented to address the identified problem. |
LO5 |
Use appropriate industry based communication skills to convey the design, analysis and outcomes of the project. |

Module Recommendations
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).
|
|
Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
|
No incompatible modules listed |

Requirements
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.

Indicative Content |
Strategic problem definition
Problem definition. Environmental scanning and analysis. Stakeholder consultation. Engaging stakeholders and building trust. This section will focus on identifying an industry based problem through consultation with relevant stakeholders. Learners will engage in environmental analysis to inform the identified problem.
|
Project Planning
Develop a plan for the research project. Explore stages of the project lifecycle; initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing. Explore issues and challenges that might arise during the project process and identify critical success factors and constraints. Identify timing and resource implications.
|
Development of Methodology
Secondary and primary data. Quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Case studies, interviews, observation, questionnaires and focus groups. Online methodologies. This section will explore how learners should gather the data necessary to address the defined research problem. Learners should formulate and assess viable methodologies and technologies to address the industry based problem with a view to identifying the most appropriate methodology and technology(ies).
|
Data Analysis
Analytical tools and presentation of data. Quantitative and qualitative data analysis tools. Basic applications (databases, spreadsheets etc). Statistical packages. Working with 'survey monkey' and other online surveys. Appropriate methods of analysing the collected industry based data to draw insights and provide logical interpretations to inform the research problem will be explored.
|
Research Presentation and Report Writing
Oral presentations. Professional report writing, referencing and research ethics.
