Module Description: |
Accountancy requires the application of technical knowledge and informed professional jusgement to a broad, ever-evolving, range of business situations. Members of the accountancy profession must also demonstrate appropriate ethical values and other requisite behavioural attributes in the discharge of their duties. Given the applied nature of accountancy, the importance of workplace learning in the formation of professional accountants, has been long recognised.

Indicative Content |
Reflective Practice
Workshop at the start of semester 1 on how to write a reflective learning journal and the process of reflective writing as well as a review by the supervisor during the year. Students will also be given instruction on how to use software to maintain their journal.

The Trainee Accountant
The range of activities in which learners will engage during their work is broad and will vary in accordance with the business environment in which they work. The activities are expected to fall within the following six categories:
Financial Accounting,
Auditing and Statutory Compliance,
Corporate Planning, Control and Treasury Management,
Information/Financial Systems,
Management Skills,
Taxation.

Detailed Record of Practical Experience
Learners will receive instruction on how to maintain a record of experience gained, vai the Detailed Record of Practical Experience and submit copies of such records to the Work-Based Learning Coordinator. At the end of each of the four semesters, students will submit a 2,000 word report reflecting their learning experience to date.
