This module explores the concept of place within photography and video, along with associated visual and physical qualities. Students are required to focus on landscape, cityscape and/or interior space.

Indicative Content |
Essential Elements
Sense of place, community and self. The poetics of space. Place and photographic genres. Light, tone, colour and contrast. Composition, perspective, form, texture and pattern.

The Landscape
Discovering and choosing landscapes. Equipment and shooting techniques. Composition elements in landscapes. Weather and changing light.
|
The Urban Landscape
Streetscapes, architectural subjects and details. Volume, lines and structure of buildings and streets. Street photography. Inhabited and uninhabited spaces. Industrial landscapes.

Interior spaces
Simple and complex interiors. Intimate and larger scale spaces. Human presence. Light sources and light qualities.
