Module Description: This module explores a wide range of contemporary still and moving imagery practices. Students are introduced to key writers and theorists to engage with photographic theories and related discourses. Students develop skills to articulate their own opinions and contribute to contemporary debates.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Contemporary Issues and Contexts
Contemporary lens-based media and its relationship with contemporary fine art and design. Social, political, technical and philosophical contexts. Censorship and propaganda. Contemporary and emerging directions in photography and video practices. Photography and video and image-led social media.
Examining and Discussing Contemporary Photography and Video
Key current debates on contemporary photography and video. Applying critical theory to contemporary lens-based images and practices. Generating and using appropriate criteria to analyse contemporary still and moving images. Writing about contemporary photography and video, essay writing, sourcing information, referencing, structuring.
