Module Description: This module examines how teachers can embed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) techniques to aid learning across all areas of the National School Curriculum.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Create a portfolio of Montessori related lesson plans that incorporate the use of ICT to support curriculum delivery.
LO2 Examine how ICT can be used to link the core principals of the primary school curriculum.
LO3 Identify legal, ethical and health and safety implications of using ICT in a classroom setting.
LO4 Describe the benefits of using ICT when teaching children with additional and special needs.
LO5 Employ range of ICT tools for assessments across the primary school curriculum

Indicative Content
Using digital information to support curriculum delivery.
Exploring how to use digital information to support curriculum delivery. Computers and other ICT equipment in schools. The Technology Integration Initiative (TII).
Learning in a primary school setting.
Examining creative ways to assist learning and development in a primary school setting. ICT peripherals, software and on-line environments. The Schools Broadband Programme; School networking; Scoilnet. Special education and ICT.
ICT - Assessment
Demonstrate how to use ICT for assessments across the primary school curriculum.
Responsibility of teachers using ICT in a classroom setting.
Discuss the relevant legal, ethical and health and safety implications of using ICT in a classroom setting. Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP), installing filtering or monitoring software. Making students, teachers, and parents aware of potential Internet risks and educating them to minimise these risks.
Innovative learning skills.
Develop innovative learning skills to support learning; what are the most effective pedagogical approaches when incorporating interactive technologies in teaching and learning?
