Module Description: This module enables a Montessori student to apply and progress the professional competencies acquired to date in a supervised environment. It offers the student the opportunity to apply theory to practice and further develop their practical skills.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO3 Apply Montessori theory in a supervised learning environment.

LO5 Collate a teaching resource file.
LO6 Discuss and critique the core competencies of a Montessori practitioner.

Indicative Content
Montessori Director
Student should take responsibility for own actions in a supervised context. Ability to work within different roles: individual, team, multi-disciplinary framework etc. Use variety of reflective and observation techniques
Integrating Theory in to Practice
Students should aim to participate in as many aspects of the placement setting as possible. Compile and maintain teaching resource file. Plan and deliver schemes of work, liaise with staff, parents, other professionals etc. Effective use of supervisory feedback/guidance. Further develop their competence in interacting with children of different ages in accordance with the Montessori Philosophy
Pedagogical Practices
Understanding of the art and science of teaching children from a Montessori perspective. Awareness of differentiation that particularly relate to an educational settings. Design and implement pedagogically inclusive class themes/lesson plans.
Prepared Environment
Student should demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the core competencies of a Montessori practitioner and his/her role in the prepared environment.

Mark decided by CIT placement Team Member based on observing practice and informed by input from the student's placement supervisor.Evaluation form to be completed by placement supervisor. Note that this evaluation process is inextricably linked to the practical placement experience, therefore any repeat assessment must be based around a further practical placement experience.
