Components of an Information System, Data vs. Information, Data Quality, types of Data Processing, decisions by type and organisational level and the systems that support them (TPS, MIS, DSS, ESS), e-Business and e-Commerce, Competitive Advantage through Business Information Systems.
Hardware
Categories of computers, input/output devices, comparison of storage technologies (flash etc.), CPU (speed - multicore), graphic cards, Grid Computing, Virtualisation, Cloud Computing, Green Computing, Internet of Things.
Software
Categories of Software: Document Production, Graphics, Spreadsheets, Databases, Collaboration, Presentation Packages, Software for using the Internet, Security Software; Software Distribution Models: Open Source, SaaS; Software for the Web: Java, JavaScript, Ajax, ASP.Net, PHP, NoJS etc.
Networks, Telecommunications and the Internet
