Module Recommendations

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).

Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
No incompatible modules listed

Requirements

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.

Indicative Content
Sports needs analysis
Application of the initial stage of the coaching process. Assessment of the physiological demands, movement patterns and conditioning needs associated with team and individual sports based on scientific literature.
Plan a conditioning programme
Planning phase of the coaching process. Development of an appropriate periodised sport specific conditioning programme for team or individual sports. This programme will be developed based on initial needs analysis and will focus on the development of speed, strength and conditioning. Programme planning and design will adhere to the Principles of Training. The components of the programme will be grounded in scientific literature and best practice.
Instruction of conditioning exercises
Effective instruction of prescribed speed, strength and conditioning exercises and drills for high performance athletes and teams (e.g. SAQ exercises, plyometrics, core stability) using appropriate pedagogical coaching principles
Evaluation of a conditioning program
Evaluation phase of the coaching process. Analysis of evaluation procedures of a conditioning programme using international best practice models.
Scientific literature
Critical review of recent literature in sport conditioning to guide the development of relevant exercise programmes for high performance athletes. Resources such as the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research are recommended.
