Module Description: This module is a practical computer graphics class. It is an introduction to design software for the graphic arts industry and uses the most up to date creative technologies in graphic design.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Illustrate with line, shape and tone to create and form basic images using colour, typography and layout.
LO2 Present an awareness of file storage, export formats, resolution, size and colour modes of vector and bitmap images.
LO3 Identify the various software applications and their directed uses within graphic design industry.
LO4 Identify the methods and processes used to create a design publication for digital output.

Indicative Content
Creative Technology
Practical use of computer hardware input and output devices for the realisation of graphics - understanding the monitor, computer processor, server, external storage devices, scanners and printers. Introduction to and practical use of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop software for graphic design. Introduction to the treatment of graphics when preparing for print output - Vector versus Bitmap graphics, file formats, file and image size, resolution, colour modes.
