Module Description: This is the second in a progressive series of group workshop modules. It facilitates the student’s active engagement with popular music repertory in an ensemble setting. This module creates a directed learning environment for the students to musically develop the application of their fundamental knowledge, skills and competencies within an ensemble context.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Apply fundamental instrumental/vocal skills to straightforward ensemble repertory.
LO2 Display fundamental rhythmic skills through basic ensemble interaction.
LO3 Display the ability to develop the fundamental musicality of ensemble performances through basic critical analysis of relevant repertory.
LO4 Successfully navigate a basic unprepared chart at sight within an ensemble.
LO5 Address fundamental musical and technical concerns whilst successfully presenting a basic programme as part an ensemble.

Indicative Content
Musicianship and Instrumental Skills:
Directed practical application of assimilated fundamental knowledge/skills in a real-world rehearsal/performance context.
Reading:
Basic group reading etudes and charts play a key role in weekly directed rehearsals.
Ensemble Skills:
Fundamental application of knowledge assimilated through basic critical analysis of standard repertory. Ensembles work as collaborative units reproducing basic recorded and written material under the direction of ensemble tutors.
Ensemble Programme:
Suitable ensemble programmes demonstrate the fundamental instrumental application of basic musical and technical considerations.
Continuous Assessment:
Each individual student is monitored on a weekly basis. Considerations such as attendance/ punctuality, participation/ interaction with peers, preparedness, development of ensemble performance ability and contribution to ensemble progress are all taken into account in the context of the progressive requirements of the module.
