Module Description: This is the sixth in a progressive series of skill-centered modules. It enables students to demonstrate musical performance skills and assured technical ability. Students will demonstrate their progressive ability to conduct independent learning, musically apply knowledge garnered from critical listening and accurate transcriptions. Student will learn to comfortably integrate technique and musicality when executing sight-reading.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Demonstrate the smooth integration of musical and technical ability through the performance of a stylistically varied programme.
LO2 Manipulate the chosen instrument in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of dynamic expression, colour and contrast.
LO3 Demonstrate precise co-ordination in the technical patterns and mechanics required to advance the control of the chosen instrument to a high level.
LO4 Integrate assimilated technical ability with appropriate musical choices to perform an unprepared piece at sight in time with an optional click/ backing track.
LO5 Create, present and musically perform an accurate transcription of assigned repertory.

Indicative Content
Progressive work on technical and musical skills:
Continued integration of core technical ability with knowledge garnered from in-depth stylistic analysis of varied musical genres to facilitate the production of precise musical expression.
Exercises, Rudiments, Scales & Arpeggios:
Expansion of the range, scope and application of advanced instrument-specific exercises, rudiments, scales and arpeggios as appropriate to the specific chosen instrument.
Advanced Instrumental Musicianship:
Sight-Reading, progressive technical etude repertory and independent learning are developed. In-depth critical analysis of different composers/musicians across varied styles and genres feature centrally in the progressive development of the student’s instrumental musicianship.
Transcription:
Transcription exercises focus on passages of progressive complexity. Accuracy in terms of notation, analysis and reproduction on chosen instrument is developed.
