Module Description: This is the fourth in a progressive series of skill-centered modules. It enables students to demonstrate competent performance skills. Students will demonstrate their ability to conduct independent learning, apply knowledge garnered from critical listening and accurately execute straightforward sight-reading.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Perform a stylistically authentic and technically involved programme of instrumental repertory.
LO2 Accurately perform a straightforward, unprepared piece at sight in time with an optional click/ backing track.
LO3 Create, present and perform a chart for an assigned piece of standard repertory.
LO4 Demonstrate musical sensitivity and awareness through the ability to interact with other musicians/ backing tracks.
LO5 Inform performances through critical analysis of relevant stylistic recordings.

Indicative Content
Instrument-specific Programme:
An individualised, instrument-specific programme which expands the learner's technical abilities, stylistic awareness, musicality, internal time and performance skills.
Technique:
Relaxed and precise application of fundamental technique is expected on chosen instrument. Progressive study of advancing technique focuses on the specific requirements of authentic stylistic reproduction on chosen instrument.
Exercises, Rudiments, Scales & Arpeggios:
Progressive study of instrument-specific exercises that develop the student's performance competence.
Reading:
Accurate musical literacy is expected in the context of appropriate ensemble/ solo etudes and notated charts. Learning focuses progressively on the musical interpretation of written material.
Critical Analysis:
Critical analysis of relevant repertory will influence stylistic development on chosen instrument - building on acquired knowledge of instrument history and basic transcription skills. Group analysis highlights the core role of the chosen instrument and encourages musical sensitivity towards other musicians.
