Module Description: This module offers the opportunity for students to evaluate, identify & explore the commercial variables associated with the preparation of artwork for print. Students will employ digital print colour management skills & knowledge in developing industry standard artwork.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO3 Apply printing industry quality control, demonstrating the importance of quality assurance, approved evaluation and setting up of criteria.

Indicative Content
Industry Trends & Theory
New Technology in colour/digital print, Industry trends. Workshop – traditional print presses and industry progression from traditional print to digital print technologies. Students will report on techniques & trends as set out by the set criteria/brief.
Quality Control & Criteria
Control and management and production output criteria. CIE Lab, UCR, GCR, The ISO 12647 as a print standard. ICC Profiles. The Fogra/Ugra Media Wedge. Dot Gain. Black Generation. The Altona Test Suite. Issues with PDF X on press. Photoshop Scripting. Control and management and Production output criteria. Problem Solving issues related to prepress and printing.
Technical Project
Create artwork demonstrating technical competence as set out by the set brief. Artwork must meet high quality printing standards and showcase knowledge of contemporary practice & know-how.
