Module Description: This module is focused on developing the students awareness of design as a communication and strategic business tool and is concerned with providing students with knowledge of management techniques relevant to visual design situations and a deeper knowledge of design practice.
The module will reflect graphic design industry where the designer identifies the scope of a set brief, conceptualises a range of design solutions, employs iterative critical judgement and develops appropriate outcomes to a professional standard, which are informed by current design management practices.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Interpret a design brief and evaluate design projects in terms of their design methods, processes and outcome
LO2 Apply appropriate investigation methodologies in relation to a set group design project
LO3 Identify and evaluate client and customer needs relevant to target audiences and markets
LO4 Produce and present a design audit and design strategy to a set group design project
LO5 Present design studio practice in relation to the presentation, promotion, pricing and application of client personnel issues

Indicative Content
Design Studies:
This module is concerned with providing students with an advanced knowledge of the main areas of design practice.
Design Process:
Methods and processes used to initiate and develop design projects. Students will be encouraged to investigate the skills required to effectively manage creative teams in order to facilitate the design process.
Design Business Organisation:
Practical project management. Design policies, procedures and guidelines.
Support Studies:
Investigation & Analysis.
Design Strategy:
Identifying the audience and market and the client and customer needs. Use a design audit and planning a design strategy. Students will be encouraged to investigate the skills required in building and managing client relations and guiding design decisions within a team environment.
Presentation:
The presentation of a set group project to professional practice standards.
