Module Description: This module introduces both the technical and communicative aspects of editorial typographic design in relation to graphic design. It concentrates on the skills and abilities of spatial arrangement in the layout of text in relation to other design elements.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
Research and Analysis
Students will undertake research to broaden their understanding of editorial design and its application within the context of graphic design.
Design, Exploration and Development
This module encourages students to explore expressive ways of conveying editorial design through using and exploring techniques such as: line length, column widths, margins, grids, running heads, folios, pagination, sub-heads, and headlines in relation to editorial design. Students are encouraged to explore print and digital formats. Print outcomes may include books, magazine, journals or reports for example. Students are supported in translating these outcomes to digital formats through websites, apps, blogs etc.
Final Artwork Presentation
Students will be encouraged to consider a final outcome holistically in the appropriate application of editorial design applicable to the final outcome such as magazine design and book design as defined by set briefs, in print and digital formats.
