Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Sight-read and perform a range of solo and ensemble vocal music
LO2 Identify and notate features in a range of musical excerpts, including music of the 20th century
LO3 Identify chords and their function within a given tonal framework
LO4 Demonstrate practical understanding in the harmonisation of appropriate bass lines and/or melodies
LO5 Demonstrate an awareness of vocal technique as one conducts
LO6 Relate to nuance within the choir

Indicative Content
Aural Skills
Sight-reading and quick study of vocal ensemble repertory of the 16th to 20th centuries; melodic and harmonic dictation; aural analysis; aural perception of melodic characteristics: chordal outlines and implied tonalities in 19th century music; use of modes and other scale structures in 20th century composition.
Advanced Harmony and Analysis
Completion of introduction to elements of advanced chromatic harmony in the common practice style; the technique of employing these harmonic resources in the harmonisation of bass lines and/or melodies.
Conducting Technique
Demonstration of simple voice production; awareness of vocal technique as one conducts; sustained relation to the choir; creation of a fully characterised performance.
