Indicative Content
Background
Examine the use of folkmusic in the music composition of various traditions and of a variety of composers. Explore the presence of nationalism in Western art music.
Innovation
Explore the concept of cross-genre innovations with traditional Irish music and other musical forms. Examine the application of melodic, harmonic and rhythmic variation.
Analysis
Analyse the palette of musical tools used in the synthesis of innovation and orally transmitted music with special regard to structure, form and rhythmic emphasis.
Composition
Compose an innovative work based on the folkmusic tradition. This should incorporate cross-genre elements and imaginative creation, while maintaining the integrity of the ethnic music in question.
