Module Description: This module provides a foundation to web design, story boarding and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). It also provides the fundamental theory of web design. The student will learn how to create web pages using HyperText Markup Language (HTML) and web design software. Designing and creating a web site calls for many skills: programming, an eye for design and page layout as well as an understanding of colour, graphics, photography and sound. The aim of this module is to introduce these skills to the student.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO4 Outline the fundamental theory of good web design including story boarding and search engine optimisation.

Hyper Text Mark Up Language (HTML)
HTML is a markup language for describing web documents (web pages). HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. A markup language is a set of markup tags. HTML documents are described by HTML tags. Each HTML tag describes different document content. Students will learn to use HTML tags, hyperlinks and perform formatting using Notepad as the editor.
Web Editor
Creating Folders off line, developing story boards, naming files, saving files, design layouts, templates, themes, formatting, working with digital images, creating hyperlinks and testing. Search Engine Optimisation.
History of the Internet
Internet pioneers, timelines of internet development and current practices.
Search Engine Optimisation
The science behind SEO, guidelines and best practice.
Telecommunications
Infrastructure that facilitates the Internet and world wide web.
