Module Description: The importance of innovation to the success of the firm and to the economy at large with an International perspective is examined in this module. The module explores different innovation types, how to manage innovation effectively and how to identify innovation opportunities. Students will learn about the tools and techniques for developing ideas, how to build networks and develop partnerships across organisational boundaries and how to develop the conditions for a more creative climate. In this module students will be exposed to case examples from a diverse range of business sectors.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Critically evaluate innovation ecosystems and policy in the countries that are innovation leaders.
LO2 Critique the nature and importance of innovation to enterprise and to society at large.
LO3 Ascertain the value of the relationship between creativity, invention and innovation in the development of a new product, process, service or business model.
LO4 Explore a structured process for managing innovation and developing different types of innovation strategies considering the opportunities presented by business model innovation in internationally trading companies.
LO5 Critically assess the role of knowledge based activities, relationships and networks in the development of a new product, service or process.
LO6 Determine how innovation could be effectively managed in the case of an SME that has an international dimension to its activities.
