Module Description: This module provides insight into the practical applications of fine print. Learners will explore print as a medium and its relationship to wider contemporary practice. The module emphasises the specialist nature of printmaking, promoting a broad definition of what constitutes or challenges the notion of an ‘artist's print’. This module extends the range of creative, conceptual, technical and professional skills used in contemporary printmaking.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Develop a range of creative, conceptual and technical skills in printmaking.
LO2 Exhibit knowledge of traditional and experimental approaches that enable development of ideas through the medium of print.
LO3 Develop an individual artistic language using intaglio print.
LO4 Display evidence of concept development and material gathering relevant to contemporary print practice.
LO5 Discuss current historical and contemporary issues relating to print, and its relationship to wider art practices.
LO6 Exercise appropriate knowledge of resources available in the print workshop to plan a programme of independent study.

Indicative Content
Research
Critical and contextual group discussions centred around a range of contemporary print practices.
Print Processes
Practical technical demonstrations and workshops exploring a wide range of processes. The learner will develop a range of creative, conceptual and technical skills.
Materials
Introduction to a range of materials for use in conjunction with scanners, large format printer, computers and workshop printing equipment, to facilitate development of creative process.
Alternative approach
Exploration of fine art practice e.g. sculptural, digital, drawn, text based and photographic approaches, are used with print.
Project
The learner will utilise and build upon existing skills, techniques and knowledge to develop and realise a practical print project.
