Module Description: This module provides the learner with knowledge of fundamental business operations, particularly in the creative industries sector. By placing the creative business enterprise in the context of the broader economic systems it allows students to understand the socio-economic inter-relationships involved in business organisations and broader society. The
module further provides the learner with the formal communication skills and competencies required in a business setting with particular emphasis on writing and business documentation.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
The Creative Business Enterprise
Main features of open economic systems. Role of the business enterprise in society with particular focus on creative industries. Forms of creative business ownership. Important components of the creative business enterprise: the creative product; human resources; sales, marketing, promotion and PR; trend identification; research and development; finance and funding; Important features of creative business: Intellectual Property; E-Commerce; work cultures and creative collaboration; production and circulation of products.
Business Communication
Grammar, Language and Fundamentals of Good Writing: Sentence structure and word order. Punctuation and basic grammar. The basic principles of good writing. Writing clarity and structure. Forms of business writing: reports, proposals, business letters, emails, press releases, brochures. Writing for online platforms and environments. The importance of accurate documentation: concepts of democracy, openness, transparency and accountability.
