Module Description: This module outlines and examines the necessary administrative, financial, technical programming, marketing and customer service skills required of a modern club administrator. The students are required to identify a sports club of their choice and present, analyse and discuss it in the form of a case study.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Identify the structure and management systems which operate in sports and leisure clubs.
LO2 Explain the functions, roles and duties of the different management personnel who work in sports and leisure clubs.
LO3 Describe the various financing methods available to sports clubs and design a suitable programme of fundraising activities.
LO4 Compare and contrast the structure and administration of the various sports National Governing Bodies (NGB's).
LO5 Work as an informed and effective member of a club management team.

Indicative Content
Club Management
Sports and Leisure club management. Committee member roles. Financial management. Goal setting and planning. Event management.
Administration
Adhering to legislation in relation to club administration. Following National Governing Body (NGB) guideliness e.g GAA. IRFU, FAI, Swim Ireland. Club facility planning. Health and Safety. Accident procedures and ethical considerations.
Coaching and Administrative structure
Club and community structure. Organising junior sections. Child Welfare & Protection Guidelines including Garda Vetting. Recruiting volunteers. Increasing membership.
Case studies
Selecting and examining examples of best practice in sports club management and administration e.g. Mallow GAA, Nemo Rangers GAA, Clonakilty GAA, John Mitchells GAA, Leevale AC, Cork Con RFC, Lakewood FC, Garryduff Sports Centre.
Finance
Methods of raising money for a club including grants, sponsorship, donations, merchandise, membership subscriptions, fundraising activities. Sports Capital Programme. Irish Sports Council. Funding for National Governing Bodies (NGB's)
