Module Description: |
This module examines in detail the marketing and management of existing leisure and sporting facilities in Ireland and internationally. It also examines modern Human Resource Management (HRM) practices in the leisure industry concentrating on the importance of staff and customer retention. It reviews and evaluates national and international sports policies and examines the critical components of leisure event organisation.

Future trends in leisure
Examine new ideas in the leisure industry and determine how viable these will be in the future. Explore the possibilities of new trends that might not be established as yet. Role of the sports agent. Relevant local, national and international case studies.

Marketing of Leisure Services
The need for, and implementation of, a successful marketing plan for a sport and leisure provider. Sports Sponsorship. Event organisation and management.

Human resource management for the leisure industry
Recruitment, selection, training, retaining staff, appraisal and competencies. Learning organisations. Case studies. Review of current developments in staffing structures within leisure facilities. Delegation and empowerment. Developing and leading teams.

Managing employee motivation and performance.
Understanding of performance analysis for staff and progression within the profession according to performance levels of staff.

Retention
Current retention strategies for both staff and customers in the Leisure Industry.

Sports Policy
Review and critical analysis of National and International Sports Policies including funding, priority strategies, the role of the voluntary sector, partnerships and challenges faced.
