Module Description: This module is one of the Coaching Science suite of modules. It focuses on the practical and theoretical aspects of planning, teaching and evaluating effective activity sessions for young children.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Critically evaluate different coaching styles and philosophies.
LO2 Explain the role of the coach and discuss the qualities of an effective coach in children's sport.
LO3 Plan a series of developmentally appropriate activity sessions for primary school aged children developing the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains.
LO4 Effectively coach and evaluate developmentally appropriate activity sessions for primary school aged children in a safe and positive environment.

Coaching Models for Children's Sport
Use of Coaching Models for Children's Sport. Development of Technical, Tactical, Team Play, Physical Fitness, Playing Facts and Psychological Focus for Children in Sport.
Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD)
Stages of the LTAD model and implications for teaching and coaching children in sport and physical activity.
Stages of Learning
Introduction to Learning Theories e.g. Fitts and Posner.
Planning and Evaluation
Planning and evaluation of activity sessions for children in sport.
Effective Coaching
Organisation and implementation of effective activity sessions for children.
Code of Ethics
Ethical considerations and best practice associated with children in sport.
